Colon Hydrotherapy Sessions

Colon Hydrotherapy in General:

Colon Hydrotherapy is the safe, gentle infusion of filtered/sterilized water into the colon by way of the rectum. No drugs or chemicals are involved and the entire therapy is both relaxing and effective. During the therapy the client lies on a custom treatment table in complete comfort and privacy.  A small rectal tube (speculum) is gently inserted by the client/therapist into

the rectum through which warm processed water passes into the colon.

Modern day technology has created multi-stage water purification systems, individual disposable rectal tubes eliminate any possible contamination to the client from a previous treatment. The treatment table is sterilized after each session with anti-septic/disinfectant cleaning products.

During the therapy, water temperature and volume will be monitored by the therapist and can be varied to stimulate peristalsis (muscular contraction) in the colon. This is very important to help the atonic (sluggish) colon.

Each colon hydrotherapy session lasts approximately 45 minutes (on the table) and one should allow at least one hour per office visit. Initially, it is recommended that you receive 3-6 sessions (usually 1 per week-depending on the individual person and their personal situation and goals)) to achieve maximum benefits. Just one colonic session may be equivalent to having 10-15 regular bowel movements. After completion of your initial series, it is suggested that you have another cleansing 1-3 months later and on a regular schedule, in order to maintain what you have achieved. This helps to eliminate fecal matter which may have been lodged in the colon for weeks, months, or even years, and keep the client properly hydrated.

During a typical colon hydrotherapy session, about 10-20 gallons of water will be transported into and out of the colon. Using a combination of abdominal massage (if consented), reflexology, breathing instructions and relaxation techniques, the colon therapist is often able to promote elimination of a volume of toxic waste, which would not be possible otherwise.

A skilled and certified colon hydro-therapist will use several fillings and releases of water, as well as light massaging of the bowel (not usually necessary with open systems), to dislodge toxic waste matter adhering to the walls of the colon. The dislodged fecal impactions are then gently and easily washed away during elimination. With colon hydrotherapy, the entire colon is eventually cleansed and the therapeutic benefits are much greater than those achieved with an enema. Enema cleansings are limited to the rectum area and due to the body's natural desire to expel waste, and are limited in duration. Over the counter suppositories stimulate expulsion of the contents of the rectum, but contribute to dehydration which may exacerbate a constipated condition. Other bowel eliminators such as Senna can have addictive properties for some people.
Colon hydrotherapy in and of itself is not addictive. What is “addictive” is the healthy, energized feeling you get after each and every session you have.  Colonics do not make the body addicted actually quite the opposite. It encourages the restoration of the colon's natural function by strengthening peristalsis.

During the session, the colon hydro-therapist will carefully evaluate the client's progress to determine if additional sessions will be necessary and what other options are appropriate for that specific individual. Typically, after a session, many people report a feeling of heightened energy, an increased sense of well-being and renewed vitality. For certain, your colon will be cleaner and you may experience easier eliminations and your overall health status will improve. Remember the old saying, “cleanliness is next to God-liness”. While colon hydrotherapy is not a cure for any disease or ailment, it may be considered an important adjunctive therapy to help you rejuvenate and maintain overall health.

With some time, patience and a little effort, along with the assistance and advice of a certified colon hydro-therapist, you will well on your way to gaining improved health, wellness and continued increased energy, so that you can live a happier more fulfilling dis-ease free life.

FAQs

Q.    What is colon hydrotherapy?

A.    Colon hydrotherapy is often referred to as colon irrigation, colonics, colon therapy, high colonic or high enemas.  It is the gentle infusion of filtered, sterilized, temperature-controlled water into the colon via a sterile, disposable rectal tube.            The water safely flushes out the impacted toxins and waste matter.  When used in conjunction with a good diet and exercise, colon hydrotherapy can be an effective means to greater health!!

Q.    Will enemas or laxatives accomplish the same results?

A.    NO!!  Even though enemas are not harmful, they only clean out the lower portion of the colon, leaving about four feet un-cleaned.  Laxatives irritate and inflame the intestinal lining as it sloughs off the mucous membrane in order to create the “release”.  Laxatives do not remove impacted toxins and wastes.  Laxatives can cause dehydration and has the potential, with continued use, to ruin the protective lining of the colon and become addictive as the colon becomes trained to need the laxative for elimination.

Q.    What are the signs of inefficient elimination?

A.    Bad breath, coated tongue, sallow complexion, abnormal smelly body odor, dark circles under the eyes, cold hands and feet, brittle nails and hair, pot belly, tension, fatigue, allergies, indigestion, chronic headaches, irritability, nervousness, nausea, depression, asthma and backaches.

Q.    Is the colon the only organ that stores toxins?

A.    NO!!  Toxic wastes can be found throughout the body.  When toxins cannot be eliminated through the colon, kidneys, liver, skin perspiration or lungs, the body must store them in body tissues.  These areas include fat cells (which can inhibit weight loss), joints, muscles, arteries, liver and other organs.

Q.    What types of systems are available?

A.    There are two types of systems available - an open system and a closed system.  The four major differences in the systems are: size (length and width) of the rectal tube, water pressure, client comfort overall ease and effectiveness, the amount of privacy given, and the cost.

With an open system, the rectal tube is smallest at approximately ¼" in diameter and the closed system is larger, at approximately one inch in diameter.  The open system rectal tube is inserted 1-1½ inches into the rectum by the client.  Whereas, the closed system rectal tube is inserted 5 -6 inches into the rectum by a therapist.  The open system is much more comfortable and does not cause "blowouts" afterwards.  The open system allows more privacy, with the therapist checking on you to make sure you are doing well and to answer any questions.  The closed system offers less privacy because the therapist must be with you during the entire session and must be “present” when the tube is inserted.

Q.    What system do you use?

A.    Lucky for you that my office utilizes an open system, which provides a comfortable, easy, effective, private and relaxing experience.  The system is the FDA regulated LIBBE.  Its design incorporates the latest gravity flow technology available and is the best system on the market for privacy, convenience and effectiveness.

LIBBE uses micro-filtered water that is sterilized by an ultra violet system.  Disposable rectal tubes are used one time and disposed of after each use. The LIBBE and surrounding areas are disinfected after each use.

Q.    Should I be nervous?

A.    Absolutely not!!  Most people have a wonderful, relaxing and some even feel as though it is a spiritual experience.

Q.    Does it hurt?

A.    No, but someone with a highly impacted colon might incur cramping as the colon contracts to expel the waste.  Once the major impaction is removed, many people actually find the session pleasant.

Q.    Is it embarrassing?

A.    Absolutely not!! Every effort is taken to maintain your dignity. Your session takes place in a private room and you are properly draped.  The best part - there is no odor during bowel "releases" when using the LIBBE system! Also, you even insert the small tube yourself. If you need a friend or family to join you during your session, that option is available (and has been used by clients many times).

Q.    How long is a session?

A.    During the first session, you will meet with the colon hydro-therapist and review your personal health history.  Because of this, your first session can take about 1-1.5 hours.  The second session generally takes about 1-1¼ hours.

Q.    What is the cost of a Colon Hydrotherapy session?

A.    The cost of the initial session is $90.00 and $80.00 each subsequent session.

Q.    How big/long is the rectal tube?

A.    The rectal tube is the width of a pencil and is inserted 1 - 1½ inches into the rectum. You can barely feel it.

Q.    Who inserts the tube?

A.    Generally, you insert the tube.  If you are confused, scared or uncertain of what to do, the therapist is there to assist you-that is what we are here for.  Really, it is very easy to do.

Q.    Should I even do this?

A.    Without a doubt, this is the best thing since sliced bread !!  You will feel remarkably better as soon as your first session is complete!!  Some people claim that they feel better while still in the middle of their session. Enjoy a great night's sleep after having a colonic.

Q.    Should I prepare for the session?

A.    No preparation is necessary, but it is recommended that you eat something light (soup or salad) 1½ +hours before your session to prevent a drop in your  blood sugar as a result of the waste elimination.  Some people begin to change their diet prior to initiating colon hydrotherapy, but that is purely up to the individual. Many people make the decision to start eating more fiber and eating/drinking better prior to their first colon cleansing session.

Q.    What about water dehydration?

A.    During colon hydrotherapy, the colon naturally absorbs water and the body re-hydrates itself. It is very important to always hydrate the body as 90% of the body is water. The rule of thumb is to drink ½ the body weight in ounces (ie. 150 pound person requires 75 ounces of water per day in order to properly hydrate their body).

Q.    What is constipation and how do I know that I have it?

A.    Constipation is a state of the bowel in which evacuations are infrequent and difficult, or where the large intestines becomes lined with impacted, hard feces. Undigested food and waste may remain lodged in the large intestine for days, weeks, months or even years to putrefy and generate toxic substances harmful to your health. Most experts agree, if you are not having at least 2-3 bowel movements a day, then by definition, you should consider yourself constipated. The average length of a “good” bowel movement should be 8-12 inches long and the width of the bowel which is approximately 2-2.5 inches in diameter. If your bowel movements are consistently short, hard, narrow or look like marbles, then consider yourself constipated. Please note that simply correcting your diet and hydrating yourself will improve your situation, but we recommend that you get several colonics first, to begin the clean out and cleanup process.

Q.    What is bowel toxemia?

A.    Bowel toxemia is a problem caused by years of poor eating combined with a buildup of waste materials-impacted feces, bacteria, fungi, viruses, dead cellular tissue, accumulated mucous, parasites, worms, etc. - on the colon walls. This build up can inhibit muscular action causing sluggish bowel movements, constipation, inflammation and very serious disease.

Millions of people in this country – who suffer all types of health problems – may never even consider that the source of their problems is a toxic and sluggish colon. This is not surprising. The traditional treatment of health disorders, disease symptoms and disease management...using pharmaceuticals and surgery...may completely obscure the root cause of recurring health problems.

Q.    What is leaky gut syndrome?

A.    Leaky gut syndrome is a problem where toxins from the colon may be absorbed and circulate into the bloodstream. These poisons can impair normal liver, lung and kidney function. A person with this condition will almost constantly feel tired, weak and ill.

Q.    What are some of the signs of colon or bowel toxicity?

A.    Colon/bowel toxicity can be the underlying cause of many commonly reported health problems and may indicate the need for colon hydrotherapy. The following is a short list of the many signs of colon toxicity.

*constipation

*headaches

*hemorrhoids

*backache

*arthritis

*allergies

*diarrhea

*bad breath

*skin problems

*asthma

*chronic fatigue

*depression

*insomnia

*irritability

*frequent colds

*food cravings

*hypoglycemia

*difficult weight loss

*indigestion

*hypertension

*abdominal gas

*dirty blood

*leaky gut

*poor immunity

*menstrual problems

*distended abdomen

*prostate problems

*foul body odor

If you have any of the above health problems, you may benefit from a series of colon hydrotherapy sessions. An unhealthy colon can adversely effect your total health, including all your body systems and lead to the problems listed above.

A healthy, strong functioning colon is essential to maintaining good health. Your colon, together with the kidneys, lungs and skin are responsible for eliminating waste from the body. Overtime though, your colon may lose its ability to properly eliminate all waste from the gastrointestinal tract due to a combination of poor diet, improper food combining, not properly chewing your foods, drinking while eating, over doing alcohol, drug intake and/or lifestyle (including stress).

If this happens, the colon may become saturated with harmful toxins. Then through a process called auto intoxication, these toxic substances can be transported into the bloodstream where the lymphatic and circulatory systems, as well as the lungs and kidneys, become overburdened and expose you to serious health risks.

Q.    What are the benefits of colon hydrotherapy?

A.    The following is a list of benefits of colon hydrotherapy:

*Clearing the colon of old, hardened, waste materials as well as harmful toxins.
*Restoring proper pH balance in the body.
*Stimulating the immune system.
*Allowing freer passage of nutrients into the blood as waste in the blood is removed.
*Increases the prevention of toxic absorption by way of the mucosa into the blood.
*Provides a favorable environment for bacteria and micro-flora for digestion and assimilation.
*Strengthens peristaltic (natural muscular contractions) activities in the colon.
*Promoting a return of normal, regular (daily) bowel movements.
*Decrease in total body weight.
*Decrease in body girth (dimension).
*Decrease in gas/bloating and discomfort.
*Decrease the levels of fatigue and depression.
*Improvement in digestion and assimilation of foods.
*Increase in the number of elimination processes.
*Increase the amount of elimination.
*Increase the ease of elimination.
*Increase in energy throughout the day/week.
*Increase hydration level in the body.

Q.    What are the side effects of colon hydrotherapy?

A.    Most people experience positive effects.  The most common positive side effects are feeling healthier, lighter, more energy and a feeling of cleanliness (it's like taking a bath on the inside !!).  However, depending on your toxicity levels, you might feel a little tired after your session.  This effect is only short-lived, as your body re-cooperates from detoxing.

Q.    Will one session be enough?

A.    One session a week for six weeks is recommended to start.  Then afterwards a maintenance program of one time a month or so should be implemented.  This can be adjusted to fit your work, personal and financial schedule.

Q.    Do I need to use a colon cleanser prior to my colonic treatment?

A.    Everyone is different and must be treated differently. You can use a colon cleanse, many people choose to or need to. Not everyone does though. Every colon cleanse effectiveness varies considerably.  Keep in mind that each colon cleanse is different and works differently on different people. If you can add more fiber and water to your diet, usually that is enough to get the ball rolling prior to and after your colonic.

Q.    Is this covered by my insurance?

A.    Unfortunately, standard insurance plans do not cover this service.  However, negotiations are underway with alternative therapy insurance programs to cover this service.  We will see what the future brings...This therapy is worth the out of  pocket expense. Even if you can only afford a session every once in a while, it will benefit you in many ways and you will feel the difference.

Q.    Where are you located?

A.    10 Eayrestown Road, Southampton, New Jersey 08088. All appointments must be scheduled in advance, as we do not take walk-ins. New clients must leave a credit card on file in order to make an appointment.

Q.    Can anyone get this?

first or third trimester of pregnancy
colon cancer
kidney failure
recent abdominal/colon surgery
dialysis
diverticulitis
ulcerative colitis
uncontrolled high blood pressure
